Most scholars who have studied Cezanne's work date this painting to 18883ƒ41890. It shows some stylistic connection with The Banks ofthe Marne in the Hermitage collection. The landscape is executed in thin liquid paint and exhibits the orderly brushwork and similarly shaped strokes that are applied at an angle to one another. This picture clearly demonstrates those principles used by Cubist painters several years later.
